Some late (65-67) 283s were built with cast cranks, but you are right about the small journal 327s.

Cool Re: Large Journal 327 Crank for Mule Motor

More decades ago than I like to think,I bought a 283 core, took it home, dismantled it, and it had a cast crank. The balancer was"t really a balancer, it was a one piece cast hub. it also had a bronze pilot bushing in the rear of the crank. I still have the hub-I use it with my degree wheel when plying with camshafts. I used the block in my 66 Chevy I had at the time, all that stuff is long sold off. I do remember the 283 cast crank, though.

I don't know much about this, but why not use a small journal forged crank with the spacer main bearings? And small journal rods?

I know at least SOME 68-69 327 cranks were forged, maybe all but i'm not sure

I also know 265/283 cranks were forged, except the later (67 fur sure) were cast...

I know what you mean Ed, but I can't locate a spacer for a small journal crank in a large journal block, other than using a couple sets of main brgs and a lil creative work....lol. Basically, I'm just being lazy...lol

J.C., I have them in mine. 350" sized main bores, 283" crank journals. Front 4 are thick bearings, rear main has spacers behind it. Want me to go find the part number?

We actually have some in stock ( I shouldn't admit that...lol ) and I found plenty of others, although they may be discontinued.
