Smile Grade point question

If I accumulate, say four, grade points in 2015 are they "good" for applying to any national race in 2016 or are/do they go by the calender year?

The grade points you have for the previous calendar year is what they go by until you exceed that the next year. So your grade will be determined by which one is the highest between the current year or the previous year.

The average of 3 years is only used in a hardship case or someone returning to competition after an absence (at the discretion of the NHRA). When I returned to competition after a lengthy absence, I asked for an average and they said I had been away too long and had to start from scratch.

Thanks for all the input. If I understand it correctly, all the grade points I gather in a given
year can be used as my grade point total for the following year.
If I attend a LODRS event in the "following year" before I TRY for a national event, will my
grade points remain at four(assuming 4 is what I got the previous year)?

Yes, your grade would be four until you accumulated more than that in the current year.
