348 Chevy, .060" over, with a 409 crank !
Good cam and valve train, this intake:

348 with an .060"over bore, and a 3 3/4" stroke.408"cu.in. That intake would make all the difference in the world.Ultimate W motor would be a 452 or so inch 409, a set of Lamar Walden Z-11 heads, and a dual four barrel intale built along those lines. The two plane intakes were horrible on those engines.

He could probably find a 366 Tall Deck truck BBC for cheap. The money saved from sleeving and destroking a 454 would certainly cover the costs for longer pushrods, distributor, and intake manifold required on the Tall Deck engines. Plus the 366/427 Dump Truck motors are 4 bolt main, usually steel cranks, and are a touch wider in physical dimensions to give an appearance that they are 'bigger', the street rod guys usually like that.
