Re: Canton accusump vs. Moroso accumulator
It's all in the valve and how it's plumbed, the tubes are pretty basic.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I run the electric valve and let the system dictate when it needs oil not at a pre-set pressure. Why a pre-set pressure is what I meant, over letting it just free flow as needed? |

Re: Canton accusump vs. Moroso accumulator
Without a Pressure valve, how does your system know when it needs oil?

I put 7lbs of air pressure on the back side of it. When started the engine fills the accumulator with oil to the running pressure. When I get on the brakes at the end and the pressure drops the accumulator pushes oil in to cover the loss until the engine catches back up. Just a constant give and take. Being just a bracket racer I am on the brakes really hard sometimes at the stripe and it covers no problem. |

Re: Canton accusump vs. Moroso accumulator
It's the 3qt version but really only holds about 2 1/4-2 1/2 quarts typical. It will depend on engine oil pressure also. My on track pressure was about 48-50 hot. When I put the car in the trailer I always bring the rpm up so I get the pressure up to about what it sees on the track because at idle I only have about 20-25lbs depending on how hot the oil is. I want a good amount to prelube when I start up next time. When I have changed oil and checked that's about what I have seen as far as volume in the accumulator. |

Re: Canton accusump vs. Moroso accumulator
I run a Moroso 3qt however I pre-charge it to 25psi. I can tell you that filled with 80psi engine oil pressure it only holds a measured 52oz of engine oil. You have to decide how low you want your engine oil pressure to fall by the time the accumulator is empty, whatever the triggering event.

Re: Canton accusump vs. Moroso accumulator
I have used a canton 2 quart with a autimatic pressure switch that activated if the pressure gets below 60lbs. It not only saves the engine in the event of the loss of oil pressure but when you go to start the car you have 60lbs oil pressure pre lubing the engine. I would never have a race car without one.
