Did NHRA Finally throw out a 440 with a 400 block?
Or was there another violation?

68 darts never came with 440's ,the s/s world champ is running a 1968 dart with a 440 and calling it a 69.

Re: Did NHRA Finally throw out a 440 with a 400 block?
50 Dodge Darts were built with a 440 engine for classification in NHRA super stock class.Info is in the Mopar Performance chassis manual.

Re: Did NHRA Finally throw out a 440 with a 400 block?
This is Gary Hansen......I am the one disqualified at Topeka upon tear down following the class win. At issue was the cc volume of the combustion chamber. The volume was 1/2 cc short, as per the officials there. Saturday, I took the head back and re-cc'd it with a different spark plug. It then cc'd fine, with room to spare. Enough said. I will be in Chicago next week end.

Re: Did NHRA Finally throw out a 440 with a 400 block?
The word I got from NHRA was that the 400 block is a legal swap for the 440. (SS only) Dont think you can do it for another combination unless you get special approval. They must maintain the original 440 main size to be legal. If you want to have a smaller main you just use a bearing spacer.
ALL SHORT DECKS are LEGAL (Super Stock only) if you use the approved block for your combination. Man are they going to see some trapezoidal engine combos.
