1971 model year 50 car production - almost!

I found this on a Mopar forum and thought it would interest a few people here.
Perhaps someone might know why it didn't go through?

When that project was originally announced I asked why it was never built by the factory. I was told at that time the factory just didn't want to put the money into Super Stock as they were really spending big money on the relatively new Pro Stock class.

You can buy one for a mere $150K or so.

I wish I had read this before I attended the PRI show today in Orlando.. I was standing with Tom Hoover, Herb McCanless and Larry Griffith and I could have asked the man himself why this didn't happen.... Oh well, guess I missed that one......

I know most die hards on here dont like the crate motor classes in IHRA but you could "BUILD" a similar combo with a Duster or Demon for I think "C" or "D" crate motor class except without the 3X2's combo (limited to a single 850 CFM carb as per the crate motor rules for big blocks). The engine has a little more cam than a six pack and bowl blending is legal in the heads (eliminates the cheating and trying to hide it) The combo was developed by Jack McCormik (sp?) back when MoPar did not have a factory produced Big Block combo at that time. Maybe thats where he got the idea? There were at least 2 of them running several years ago (10 +) and they ran well without the combo being on "Kill". If anyone is interested in building such a car Im sure Danny Waters or Hank Blankenship could help out with the complete specs. It makes a fast low dollar combo for those who are not overly loaded with money.

I believe it was Denise Marcum, her dad and possibly Pazak (white '70 Cuda). Denise's Dart Sport was in E/CM and the Challenger was in F/CM. It was actually defactored from 410 to 405!

Dont forget Phil Baldachinos Cuda before he went with the Hemi. It ran 10.60's with ease.

I saw this car at the John Force show. I talked to the guy who brought it to the show. Only the left front brake worked and the headers had melted the piece out of the bottom of the steering column. Overall I liked it it is a shame Mopar never built any, but I am partial to Demons.

The guy who lettered it came on Moparts and told us all that the car was of fantastic quality and looked like Boyd Coddington built it. I guess he was right.

He also told us that no one on that board had enough talent to build a car of that caliber. I guess he's right there too. I could at least make all 4 brakes work.

Slowly working on TA Challenger for D,E/S and a 72 Challenger for SS/K, L as if I don't have enough other projects.
