Question Oddball 1967 Fairlane not in the guide

1967 Ford Fairlane GTA 289: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Fairlan...-/251696391045

The seller claims this has a '67-only optional 289, but NHRA only lists a 390 in the Guide for GT/GTA package cars. There is no VIN given in the ad.

Looks like it was a option in 1967.

Yes, I saw an untouched orig owner car years ago so I know they exist. As a Ford guy, I would have bet the farm that this combo didn't exist until I saw the actual car. Don't waste your time if you are considering this for Stock or SS, no chance this combo will work.

Oh,no. I wasn't thinking of building it. I was just surprised that it wasn't in the classification guide.

Although the 66 Fairlane GT/GTA were all equipped with the S code 390 engine, you could get a 289 in a 67 GT/GTA. However, unlike the 66 &67 GT 390 engine, the 289 engine did not have any special parts, no different than a non GT engine.

So Rory, if I remember correct, it wasn't even a 4bbl engine? So it would have just been a 'C' code car. Would it have single exhaust also? Pretty sad deal all around. For what it's worth, my brother had a '67 390 GTA and in stock form it was less than impressive performance wise, ran low 15's.

You could get it with a 2bl or 4bl

I don't see the 289 4 bbl. in any Fairlanes in 67.

Mustangs and Falcons, yes.
