should you have the block align honed?

Did you take the block apart? How did the bearings look? The crank? Did the crank spin free in the block?

I've seen too many variabes in factory mass production machining to say No.
I got to where I just lightly trimmed (.001-.002) the caps and dusted the main bores with the align hone on ever engine I built. It was amazing what I ran into. If it is a SBS or BBC be sure to install the oil pump. When it is torqued it affects the rear main bore.

I would have the machine shop check the main bore sizes with a dial bore gauge and straight edge to see if the block is straight and true. Somehow hen the block is line honed it causes timing chain fitment issues. You can get undersized sets to compensate for that but can be a pain. In all my years of racing I have only had one block line honed. That was after I broke a crankshaft. That block was never right after that. Ended up scrapping it.
