Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
Thanks guys, I think mama is gonna get me a 750 holley for Christmas. In the rule book it says any Holley carb , oem or aftermarket 750cfm. It doesn't specify vacuum or double pumper so I'll assume either is ok? (and is dbl pump as obvious as it looks or should I consider vac sec since this is an auto small block and 750 is pretty big)?

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
I keep looking at the factored HP of those 3 crate engines.
The 270 hp is factored @ 250....only 10 more than the 215 @ 240 hp engine plus the 270 uses a larger lift cam, and better heads. However, the 285 hp is factored at 255 hp. I do not have any literature about the 285 engine combo. ( I would love to see a scanned print copy of that 285 ) It seems to me the 270 or 285 would be a better choice to start with, maybe ?? Larger lift and better heads.

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
most power can be made with the 270. GT40 P heads are better.
I run the 285 motor. original GT40 heads, .480 lift roller cam 1.6 RR. Same motor that came in 1993 Mustang Cobra minus the 1.7 roller rockers. (Factory B303 cam) I actually ran the B303 cam for a few years. Other than the heads and cam lift, I believe the bottom end of each engine is the same as production 302's.

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
Thanks Chris for clearing that up.
The text in the the description for the 270 hp just says "GT40" so I was thinking they were Cobra 5.0 GT40 heads.

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
Alan the 270/250 uses the gt40p heads, the 285/265/255 uses the gt40 heads. The gt valve train refers to valve size as being the gt40 valves. As you can see that our 95 Mustang that we sold to Justice's is a top qualifier with 270/250 engine. It has stock crank, eagle rods, ross NHRA-IHRA stocker pistons, 750 DP holley, Victor Jr. intake, and gt40p heads with a good valve job. The short block for both engines are the same except for the cam lift. As my son Brandon said we have tried both and the 250 is a better combo.

That's good to hear that the 270 has more cam lift and better heads. It looks like the 270 is the way to go for a carbed/automatic class car. Thanks for the info.

I'll second the thanks!
GT-40P heads were the ones put on v-8 explorers right? I don't imagine you can buy them new anymore? |

Re: lOOKING FOR SPEC'S 302/215@240
I run the 302 215/240 HP crate motor in my Probe. This is the Explorer crate engine. It has the GT40P cylinder heads. This engine was available from Ford Racing back around 2000.
Here are the specs that were sent to IHRA: This is from the 2000 Ford Racing catalog:
