S/St entry at Englishtown is a joke. It's been open for 4 1/2 hours now, and there's 44 of the 60 spots full already. S/C is almost as bad with 50 of 80 spots full. Just like the last couple of years, unless you have a grade point of 6 and register in the first 24 hours, you're not going to get in.
If NHRA can't have any more cars (which my experience is that can't because I saw first hand where people arriving late pit, and don't kid yourself thinking that Englishtown is COMPLETELY paved, because it isn't), for the one S/St event per year in Division 1, couldn't they eliminate another class to up the quota for S/St to 100 or so cars? They would EASILY fill that, and could probably easily go to 128 cars as well... I feel sorry for all you Grade 5 people, who at this point it looks like you won't be going to E-town... Jason, S/G and S/C are only getting 80 spots. .. Stock is not competing this year, That's 128 cars. ,, NHRA will not increase the size of the Super class fields when there is limited pit space and more importantly limited time in which to compete. ... The grade 6 entry is the only thing that NHRA does to reward racers who EARN a higher grade point. ... TOM

Oh, I know Tom. It's unbelievable how few sports there are. That said, I can't say I'm sure why...did they reduce the total number compared to years past? 80 cars for S/G and S/C isn't alot, and given the popularity of S/S on the east coast I think 128 cars for S/S is reasonable. So, what's going on here?
So, the only way they'd be able to add more S/St cars is by eliminating another class. If this wasn't the only national event for S/St within 600 miles, I might feel differently. But to have one national event and to have it sell out in 24 hours is just rediculous...there isn't another class in another event for the entire year that's like this (though S/C this year at E-town is going to be close). Of course, the REAL solution would be to run S/St at more than one event in the area, and drop it from another area where they don't get the participation, such as Atlanta. But, NHRA is hell-bent on the one national event per division thing for some reason... It doesn't affect me either way as I wasn't getting in with my grade point regardless. I just feel sorry for all those grade point 5 people that won't get in (and the grade point 6 people that may not remember to register until Friday and will only find themselves shut out). Good luck to everyone that did make it in! Jason Oldfield S/G & S/ST 1838 |

It's actually down to 11 in S/St now. Tomorrow morning at 11am should be interesting. I wonder how many people are NOT going to get in by a matter of milliseconds?
By the way, did you happen to see the whopping 9 cars entered in Comp where there's 55 spots reserved? I was going to say they'll probably open up some additional entries in S/St and S/C like they've done in the past once all the grade points have been released and they only have 30 Comp entries. But, upon thinking more clearly, that probably won't happen... Good luck everyone! Jason Oldfield S/G & S/ST 1838 |
