Car with no titles
Is it just me or am I seeing more ads with project cars that say no title or lost paperwork, I'm looking for a 82 to 92 Camaro firebird roller to build and I keep coming across this. What does everyone else think, interested in the answers thanks

Re: Car with no titles
Personally, I would NEVER own a race car with out a title. I keep a copy of my race car registration in my glovebox in the dually.

Re: Car with no titles
I dont have a title for mine. The guy I bought it from never had one. After 10 years (I believe) a Bill of Sale is all that's required in CT. Mass. too, I believe. I have a title for a project I`m working on, and glad to have it.

Re: Car with no titles
I hear people say that some states don`t require an actual title, and that a "Bill of Sale" is all you need. But without any title of other registration documentation, what is to say the person providing the bill of sale is the legitimate seller? What would prevent somebody from stealing a car, or knowingly buying a stolen car, and then writing a bill of sale for that car? Every now and then, you hear about somebody who had their Mustang or Corvette stolen , and then years later, it was found at a car show, all restored by someone else, who had no idea that their car was stolen, and sold a few times in between they bought it. Then the police seize the car, and the previous owner that it was stolen from, gets the car back, and the guy that bought, and spent lots of money on the car, is left with no car, and no recourse for the loss of "his" car. Sounds pretty risky to me.

Re: Car with no titles
A guy I know had his Harley stolen. I don`t know how many times it changed hands, but he ended up finding it at a bike show, after 5 years or so, all chromed, stroker motor etc. Happy ending for him.

Re: Car with no titles
I have never put a car down the drag strip that the title wasn't in my name. I guess it was one of the smarter things that I have done. Just makes common sense to do so. When you go to sell, makes it so easy to do it.

Re: Car with no titles
I have a question regarding this subject.
If you have a car that started as a body-in-white or has no vin number how do you create a paper trail for this situation??? Just curious.

Re: Car with no titles
Cobra Jet, COPO and Drag Paks do not have titles, just a Bill of Sale.

I had to create a "serial number" for insurance. It didn't have to be a full blown vin, just a few digits. That being said, I have two bills of sale (I'm the third owner) that I keep copies of in my truck when I am transporting the car. Otherwise it doesn't really go out of the garage too much anymore. |
