Default Spring Nationals this weekend Baytown

Ok folks we have been getting some pretty strong rain storms and forecast this week is calling for flash flooding. Sportsman Pits are going to be less than desirable. Don't shoot the messenger just want to let the racers know. Heavy rain scheduled all the way through Friday. Expect to get your tennis shoes muddy.

It might be the second running of the ServPro National’s “Like it never ever happened”
If you want a good report on the first running of the ServPro National’s, Jim Cimarolli is the one to speak with. Jim can recount the events as if it was yesterday.

From NHRARACER.COM

Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals Presented by Pennzoil to be contested on May 21-23 minus Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, and Super Gas.
Due to significant rainfall at the track and the current forecast of additional weather systems leading up to race weekend, a majority of the sportsman racer pit areas of Houston Raceway Park will not be fit for use during the upcoming Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals Presented by Pennzoil.

In addition to the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series (Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock), the following categories will compete at the event in Houston May 21-23: Top Fuel Harley, Factory Stock Showdown, Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp, Top Dragster, and Top Sportsman.

Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, and Super Gas categories that were slated to compete at the event will be rescheduled for another date to be determined. Competitors in these categories looking for an alternative event, NHRA is hosting three events this weekend.

Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Atlanta Dragway: May 21-22
Southeast Division event at Atlanta Dragway: May 23
West Central National Open at Bandimere Speedway: May 22
“It’s a difficult decision to make for our sportsman racing community but unfortunately we are unable to safely accommodate adequate pit parking in the majority of our designated sportsman lots,” said track general manager Seth Angel. “Mother Nature has forced our hand and we do not want to subject racers to subpar conditions at the risk of damaging their equipment and jeopardizing their safety.”

Additional details to follow regarding the date and entry process for the postponed portion of the event.

Just to update everyone, in case competitors do not monitor their emails. This email came through this morning.

"SS, STK, SC, and SG Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals Presented by Pennzoil competitors,

The Texas Motorplex and NHRA are pleased to announce SS, STK, SC, and SG from the Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals Presented By Pennzoil will be contested during the week leading up to the Texas NHRA FallNationals. Schedule details will be announced at a later date.

The entry list will not reopen and for competitors who need to withdraw, please email jlowe@nhra.com."

This was about the only solution to this issue. And at least, those that were entered from far away destinations can get 2 nationals with one trip back if they would like.

Sad that the entry list won’t re-open! Guess they don’t need or want our $!

Brett this is their way of punishing those racers who withdrew because they didn't want to get their crap stuck in the mud!

I am curious to the decision on this. Because I could see it going both ways. You reward those that stayed entered, while also limiting the amount of time it will take to make-up these classes on a Wednesday before a race. Also, why not open it up if you have a dedicated day to get 4 classes finished. Maybe leave the quotas fairly low. So I guess I can maybe understand it, however this is not the first time that this has happened.

Norwalk in 2019 was re-opened to allow for entries. I just cant remember if they postponed these classes before or after the Monday entry deadline.

Creative solution potentially.....re-open the entries, but only available to those that were entered at some point during the race. Not sure how that could be accomplished.

Totally agree it should be open those who bailed the last week because you couldn't much blame them. Many of those who bailed were probably part of the Servpro Nationals....
