dually gear change
88 chev 1 ton, dana dually rear. gonna take the gear change plunge...3'55? any horror stories? tks.

Depending what your current gear ratio is you may have to change the carrier. Other wise on drama. Depending on which engine you have and tire size i like 3:73s better.

tks kirk. I believe they are presently 4;56....16'' wheel/tire. 383ci hyd. roller block stroker, drt. torquer heads w/TBI. th.400 trans....not sure if there is a milage/towing converter available?

ATI has a converter for it.
If you're pulling much, a 383 won't get it done with 3.55 gears. It'll do well to pull a heavy load with 3.73 gears, most small blocks are better off with 4.10 gears, even with a 3.75" stroke. Fooling with small block engines in bigger heavy trucks, it seems most get better mileage and live longer with 4.10 gears. There are a lot of 16" tires, some taller, some shorter. It makes a difference.
