People were saying that several years ago. before your time, evidently. NHRA tried imports several years ago, after so many claiming they wanted to race. They even "previewed" some at the Topeka Nats once. Popping and farting, and throwing front axle shafts out on the ground. It was a joke. After three sessions, not one was still raceable. Had lots of decals, however. :-)

Even after that joke, they still gave them their own race series. Hardly anybody showed. No full fields, and like a second between the fastest and slowest qualifiers. It folded quickly.
The wet tee shirt contests were the best part. LOL

Imports can race right now. I know of one "ricer" that is a good, competive racer. Little RWD Honda roadster. Fast little car.

Imports go back a lot further than that Ed, 50's and 60's even.

A Stock Eliminator Ferrari V12 with six Webers launching at 13,000 might be kind of cool.

Back in the mid 70s my boss had a Ferrari Daytona. You laid underneath it & set the timing at 8000 rpm

I used to chase down (or try to, LOL) Bear's VW bug back in the '70s. Hard guy to catch.
I was responding tio the guy saying NHRA needed to allow imports.
We have had imports for a long time.
