Dave Compolitos runs a 1996 Impala SS as a Caprice(Nose) J/SA. Runs 11.60 sec and launches like a beast. Corbit Marshburn ran one too in F/Pure Stock. Then a Caprice Wagon in M/SA With the Baby LT1 run in R or Q Stock. Figure about $15,000 to make it competitive..... Roll Bar, Engine, Headers, Tires, Wheels, Trans, Converter, stuff ! LT1 Engines is robust. Hope that helps. Dan |

Re: 95 ss impala stocker?
I hear those make pretty good race cars ...
Seriously though, they're a great platform for a Class car. The horsepower hasn't been killed like on the F-bodies. You may wish to jump into Pure Stock first depending on where you live and if there are IHRA tracks close. Get your feet wet and then if you wish to take the whole plunge into a "full-out" NHRA Stocker you'll have a great baseline. Like Dan said (and you'll want to listen to him ... he's the man on the Impala SS cars) a good set of headers, converter, rear gear, roll bar, wheels/tires and some other misc. odds and ends and you're there. IIRC, I've had a few of them and they run pretty well. Scott |

Good to hear from you. You had a rocking Impala SS. In fact Corbitt Marshburn bought from you. Set it up to run F/PS and set National Records with it. Dennis ...the Baby LT1 in the 94 - 96 is a much better engine .. D |

Re: 95 ss impala stocker?
Dennis, the 91 is in the guide. With todays stand-alone electronics, it could probably be pretty good. It's the same as the Olds wagon that Al Provost ran way back when. He was using the stock electronics though. It could go stupid fast and then not.

Re: 95 ss impala stocker?
When my 1996 LT1 Trans Am was a street car, I ran the factory computer quite a while. A FAST XFI & crank trigger is faster. The factory distributors don't like 7000 RPM real well either.
