Exclamation Re: neck collar

hey smart ***----it is not necessary to wear both the HANS & the donut
ONE OR THE OTHER is OK---as far as the head sock we ran using a HANS all of 2010 and most of 2011 NEVER HAD A SOCK OR A SKIRT nobody ever questioned it---maybe we just got lucky and got away with something BUT if we had known that it was mandatory no problem we would have gotten one---not trying to skate on the rules just never knew we needed it---as far as being adamennt YOU CAN USE A HANS WITHOUT A COLLAR if you want to use one it's up to the racer but it is not necessary---as I said one or the other is OK--- end of discussion

You need two things: whiplash protection and fire protection. A collar provides both. A head-and-neck device only provides the former, so you need a sock or skirted helmet for the fire protection. This is not new, this has been in place since head-and-neck devices were approved.

FWIW, I wear a Hybrid Pro with a head sock.

Thanks Chris. I didn't think this was new info either.

Question Re: neck collar

I saw a kit to add a skirt to the helmet, anyone know if that would be legal or does it have to be manufactured with the skirt? Thank's Ray

I asked our local division tech folks a couple years ago and was told, yes, they're fine.

If you go to page 304 of the rule book. General Regulations Sect 10-7. It shows the expiration of the Snell 2000 as 1/1/2012. Like you I was hoping they were still OK.

Page of rule book or where to find on NHRA site would also be appreciated!
