Super Comp Crash in Gainesville
Anyone have any info about George Caheely's crash in SC R1? Is he OK? Did he break something? I haven't seen a dragster turn right that quickly w/o a wiggle?

Re: Super Comp Crash in Gainesville
He was back for round 1 of Super Gas later on. His son went down right before him and got really, really loose. I believe he stopped at the end of the track and told someone that there was something on the track, so they sent the guys over the wall to look and found nothing then sent George and he crashed. From some Facebook posts of Don Higgins & John Anderson it seems like running high MPH SC Cars wasn't a good idea at G-Ville so early in the morning. Just hate to see that in any class, and unfortunately there was a lot of carnage after G-Ville.

Tyler made a unbelievable save with his car, never saw a car get like that after the finish line. Real shame for George.

Re: Super Comp Crash in Gainesville
I saw Tyler's run right before. Good save there. After that they drug the track, On George's run, because the surface was fresh, you could see skid marks just before the stripe. I noticed he killed 22mph, not sure when most of that was scrubbed off. NHRA spent quite a bit of time re-prepping the track after that. A real shame.... This is why I try not to be first out during the early runs.

Re: Super Comp Crash in Gainesville
Tyler posted on Facebook this morning that he did everything he could to save the car on his run, he said when it came off the stop it shook the tires, he said he stopped at the end of the track and told the flag guy "we shouldn't be running and it's not safe" the guy told him to get his car off the track with a smirk...he then said his dad was in the water, was 65 and has never crashed with 1,000 of runs under his belt, the guy again told him to get off the track and he said they argued for a little hoping it burned enough time up to have them look at the track but, all for nothing. Just a real shame to see this happen and cars get wrecked. This happened a few years back with Kara Stine & Another girl in Top Dragster at G-Ville running early in the morning.

Re: Super Comp Crash in Gainesville
George (Eddie if you’ve been around) has made far more than 1000 runs...he’s a past IHRA SR champ and has driven some far less stable cars than he is currently running (a certain Pinto if you’ve been around). Really a shame too...a tough competitor with top notch equipment.

Re: Super Comp Crash in Gainesville
Here is the issues.
1) We changed the clocks the weekend before. This race should start 1 hour later. 2) Super Comp should NOT be the second class down the track at National events. |
