Racing Family, How You Can Give Back
Many of you may not know that when a veteran is admitted into a VA Hospital comfort items such as toothpaste, tooth brush , shampoo, deodorant, razors and shaving cream, and other comfort items are NOT supplied by the government. Many veterans are long term patients with no family members, some our drug and alcohol patients that are homeless and suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other mental illness. I ask this holiday season that you might find it in your heart to donate to your local American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Vets.
Public school classes, private schools, Sunday school classes, youth groups and other organizations could make this their special project. These veteran organizations also send packages to the soldiers overseas with comfort items and treats. Perhaps you could donate to defray the cost of postage to send these packages. These men and women bravely defended this country and many now need our help. PLEASE DON"T JUST REMEMBER THEM ON VETERANS DAY! There are many ways you can become involved. I volunteer at a VA Hospital in Butler, Pa. This time of the year can be very lonely for the veterans. Also, many of you know how homesick you can get while deployed and getting a package from home is something that helps alleviate the fact that you are not at home with family. I am passionate about serving our veterans. So please call your local veterans group ( VFW, American Legion, Disabled American Vets, Wounded Warrior, or other service organization) and ask how you can help this holiday season. Thank you! |
