If i were able to unload , into the garage without starting, i would probably still have my open trailer...but, you cant build a garage for 6k, so thats the way i justified it... and it does make racing a little easier, as you can keep everything in the trailer, that you might need...but, i miss the 'thumbs up' as people go by...

Just the opposite for me Brent...I'm not going to buy another truck that would pull an enclosed trailer hehe.

I am new to class racing, as my '69 Camaro G/SA has only been parked in my garage for just over a week, but I tow on an open trailer with a 2011 Ram regular cab, short box, 4x4.

I had a choice of buying an enclosed trailer this year or buying the above car, which I looked at a year ago and was out of my budget at the time.

I chose to buy an open trailer and use the difference to be able to afford the car.

I did buy smart enough that the loaded trailer will fit in my garage, but only with 8 inches to spare.

I know it has been discussed on this site before, but towing a race on an open trailer is just cool.

Yup, I agree ... hopefully see you on HWY 401 sometime. I tow my Monza on an open trailer behind my Suburban. Nice to get some thumbs up reactions as we travel.

Due to the lackluster performance of the 327 I decided to pull it out of the car yesterday. Just before stripping it down I did a compression test on it and found cranking psi of 100# on one side of the engine and 150# on the opposite side. It was only then that my partner volunteered the information that he had timing issues with it when it was in the street Nova...my bet is every valve in the engine is burnt lol. Amazing it could muster a 7.43 in it's condition...I'm guessing a solid 6.90 pass or better once it is sealed properly.

I bought an '88 GMC Dually and done some things to it, converted to carb, new tires, all new hoses, driveshaft, brakes ,timing chain, complete tune up, exhaust, used camper shell, water pump, seriviced trans and installed cooler...i have about 5k in it, gets about 8mpg...but its paid for... and the trailer basically is, too.. so my rig is pretty cheap, not necessarily cheap to operate, but since there is no payment, and i usually dont travel far, its pretty good. Although, i miss the 14mpg, towing with 1/2 ton 4wd and open trailer...hehe

check it out...the inside of the engine is as clean as the outside of the truck...it was used to tow a Comp Elim car , back in late '80s to '96... I bought it in Jan 2012 after 2nd owner had only put 20,000 miles on it, since '96...it has 146,000-147,000 now...ive put about 7k of those miles on it.

That's a great looking truck Brent. We rode up to Clarksville Saturday morning before going to the track to look at a 1989 Chevy 3+3 dually that was for sale. It had a terrific body, but the 454 was missing most of the emissions hardware...had to decline as it would have taken a chunk of change to put it back into compliance assuming I could locate all the pieces.

Back to the 327 - Sure enough nearly all the valves in both heads were leakers...that will be remedied Wednesday. Will do a leak down on all cylinders before it goes back in the car, but I suspect all will be acceptable as the engine only has around 100 miles total since it's build. Will check again once running and can build a little heat in it.

Thanks Thomas... it is now carbureted and gets about 8mpg, and runs way better than it did with TBI...

Cant wait to hear how Rich's car runs, with valves sealed up...
