Default Super Stock engine rules

Guys, looking to build a spare motor and was wondering about the bobweight requirements. I know there are bobweights listed for stockers, what about super stock? Is anything allowed? Everyone is going to undersize rod journals so can the rods be any weight? Can't see much improvement in the smaller journal unless the rod is lighter. The hemis are not running Honda journals and 900 gram rods, can the other classes follow suit? Thanks for any input!

No Secrets Piston and Rod weight are not restricted as for the Rod Journal Size thats one of those things if you have to ask you should stay with the stock size no disrespect just my two cents

The hemi rod must weigh the correct weight, but the pistons and pins are very light.

Super Stock can run any rod or main journal. They can run bearing reducers or accepted rods with the reduced size already taken into account. There are accepted rods with Honda size big ends. You can also run whatever size wrist pin you want. Or any deck height...
So yes, any bob weight you want is allowed in SS (using accepted parts; i.e., no aluminum or titanium rods).

To ask the OP a question in return, what does your current engine have, and are you looking for a lower cost backup engine, or are you looking to build a "state of the art" engine and turn your current engine into the backup engine?

I suggest you look at the approved rod list, and contact your division tech rep or Glendora. There is no substitute for getting the answer in writing from Glendora. But yes, smaller journals are now legal, so are smaller wrist pins. There are big blocks of most manufacturers out there with Honda rod journals and 0.8xx" wrist pins. Any forged or cast crank is legal, billet cranks are not. Yet.

I would like to make my current engine a backup, it was originally built in the late 90s. It has top dollar components but they are heavy, 820 gram rods and 570 gram pistons that were lightened. I think I can get at least 150 grams off the rod, piston and pin without hurting reliability. Don't think it will be worth any measureable power but should rev faster.

Yes...in SS. That's why it is now legal to place your RB parts in a B block.

Obviously an issue in Stock though.
