A friend of mine always reminds me of one thing. "It is what it is"

BB a 35 buck increase is not what we want but like what Chuck says, everything else is going up.

If $35, at maybe 3-4 events ($140) makes you stop racing, then you were probably over your budget before this happened. I'll bet the cost for fuel increases will cost more than that for each race. I've never heard anyone complain when the cost for "refreshments" go up.

My question at this point would be, if this has been done for National Events, is it going to trickle down to the Divisional Events.. and if so, when to we hear about it, at the entry gate.. that's where I got the news of the last entry fee increases.. good thing I had extra cash that weekend, but we didn't eat as good.. LOL

That being said.. you will see me and my crew at the races anyway, cause that's what I choose to do.. BUT.. after paying out around $2600 to insure my stuff last year, and probably facing an increase in that for next year, why should I pay another $35 per race to NHRA??.. I attended 13 events last year which would be an additional $450 or so next year.. not really a big hit spread out over a year, but I'm not seeing or hearing any give-backs.. like increasing the payouts so if you happen to win a race, you might break even on the insurance increases..

I would be interested to hear from the SRAC about their input and concerns in this area.. as well as from the guys involved in on track crashes last year as to how the insurance worked for them.. if everyone is satisfied, then I'm good..

Frank, I think we all were thinking the same thing that you were saying! More then welcome to come and run a MASGA Race with us in 2011 cause that's my plan for this year.

Trust me no matter what happens things are going to increase (Gas, Insurance, Entry Fee's) we can't control that and if we thought it was going to stay the same we all are living in a box. We all have the option to race or not but, sometimes the actions don't justify itself. I mean is the purse going to go up for sportsman racers....$305.00 to win $1,800.00 and not to mention to teeth pulling you have to do to get contingency money? I mean if we are racing to become Millionares then we are in the wrong sport....we do it for the competition, the good friends and FOR SOME OF US to get away from the G/F or Wife for a weekend. I think if unemployment wasn't so high and everyone wasn't playing for stuff with penny's we wouldn't even have this conversation on here. You know there will always be those Hardcore Sportsman racers that will be on the computer at 11am on Wed to enter a National Event even if the fee was $600.00....that will NEVER Change just maybe the amount of races they go to will decrease. The problem is and the topic has been brought up on the form before is the "Future of Drag Racing". The youth that is out there can't afford to go racing cause they have college loans to pay for, new houses..etc. I'm 31 and without my Dad no way I could even think about racing cause of the costs. I know people will say $35.00 whats the big deal just pay it but, I can think of A lot of things to do with $305.00 and be treated a heck of A LOT better then you do at a National. I know I talked to a few friends last night and they say "It's all about the Wally" but, not for me. Have fun at the Nationals in 2011! It will not stop me from racing at the Divisionals in 2011 because it's what I choose to do and I love doing it but, I won't be seen at a National Event as much as I really wanted to enter Maple Grove in 2011 cause it's not worth it.

I agree 1000% i'm in the same situation I'm 35 with a wife and a family and I'm a second gen racer and trying to bring up a third , I have a gentleman who wants to build an SS car for me to drive next year but we're backing up and giving it a strong second look because of what it cost to get to the races let alone the cost be competive. You if you figure that it cost est $1500.00 to run a national event, that's equal to about what it would cost to run a complete season @ my local track.. IMO just my .02

Really, there's no conspiracy going on here. Insurance is expensive. I watched Mark Niver die at the track last year, there's a lot of cost (emotional, human, and monetary) when stuff like that happens.

As for "holy cow" diesel is up, give me a break. Two years ago I was paying over $5/gal for the stuff and I didn't stop racing, it's "only" $3.35 now.

Folks, racing is expensive and dangerous. If you want to do it on the cheap, do it at your local track's T&T...

I dont want to sound dumb, and I should probably check into it further, "just in case" the unfortunate happens, but doesnt that link apply to the coverage we get for being an NHRA member, or do they even do that anymore?

I don't know the answer to that. But seeing that it's under the "Competition" tab, my guess is: no?

Jeff: Yes it appears this is included in our membership dues. See the link below.

http://www.nhra.com/nhra101/join.aspx

I did not read anywhere that this was an additional fee.
