Re: Top Draster wheelbase
Good to hear you are putting a T/D combination together. I have been meaning to contact Wayne to find out how the series planning is coming.
My father's front engine car is 215 inches he has been 7.6s at 179 without any problems. I know he is planning to go faster this year. I realize its a front engine car and not a four link so the center of gravity is a little different but I would say you should be ok based on our experiences. I think he would agree. The car might be a little less forgiving then a 240 or 250 inch car thats the only difference I would forsee Good Luck! B.J. Masiello |

Re: Top Draster wheelbase
Just my 2 cents but i have been 7.40s in top dragster in a 245inch dragster and being on the brakes hard at the finishline is a little disturbing so a shorter car like you will definitely be very unforgiving.

Re: Top Draster wheelbase
There are Land Shark 185" 4-link dragsters that I have seen run 7.20's with no problems.

Re: Top Draster wheelbase
Hey Brian........ a lot of years back....... before 4 link dragsters were thought of........ I ran a 215" hard tail dragster that ran 7.60's @ 170 and change......... it was a bracket car and I was into the brakes a lot on the top end......... never had a problem.......and that was at Island Dragway....... if your 4 link is set up correctly, you should have less of a problem, I would think....... the braking transition should be smoother, unless you're jumping on the binders way too hard....... and if you dial right you shouldn't be on the brakes much at all........
If you watch T/D in D1, which I'm sure you have, most of the dragsters seem to be suspended in one way or another...... so I don't see what your problem would be or who may have started you thinking that you may have one........ LOL ........ just remember to drive smart......... Is 215" too short for 180 to 190 mph???........ it's a fair question........ but I would still say you would be OK if your back half is working correctly and you know how to respect your limitations as a driver...... |

Re: Top Draster wheelbase
I ran a 225" Ed Quay in T/D at Rockingham in the fall and went 6.52 @ 208. Down track was great but it did have a tendency to want to bounce a little when the chutes where pulled.

Re: Top Draster wheelbase
Hey glad to hear some talk about this deal
I think a meeting might be a good idea I am sure you both know that Wayne has been working hard to make this a successful deal. There are a lot of things to take into consideration. I can see both sides of the coin in regards to the 7.70 vs. 7.49 deal. I also think we need to stress that Wayne has gone out of his way to schedule dates around the Epping series. Racers can actually run both series if they choose to. I am going to hit as many of both as I can. I spoke to at least one person at the New England Dragway banquet this past weekend who did not realize this. I know he wants to not take away from the hard work that they put into that deal up there last year. Brian check your PM when you get a chance Thanks B.J. Masiello |

anyway yes wayne has alot of hours invested of his own personal time invested that is very much appreciated and i understand some of the fst cars want to run the same cars but lets see how much differece is it racin a 7.49 dial or worst case a 7.70 dial 3 inches down tack ?....i personally dont care whom i race the top dragster ting was fun for me cuz the et span was close if its not td rules then maybee it should be like a quick 16 heads up race no dial in ?....anway i told wayne today we should have a meeting when he gets back from florida. anyway good luck to wayne in florida !!! |

Wow B.J. you must feel better cuz i do after hearing you .....lol....you are correct you will never please everyone ...that is why awhile back i said a meeting with all interested and track personel involved would work great ! that way there is no hidden names and if you have something to say go for it and take a vote and make a final decision so everyone can be a part of it ...lord knows wayne and scott have done a ton by them selves ! .....my feeling is if my car is fast enough i look forward to racing the series and hopefully some at ned if not just call me a bracket racer i just want it to stay together ! if anyone knows the kinda season i had last year with my two cars then you can understand i dont want breakage...lol....
if not for some super nice friends and fellow racers i wouldve been a spectator last year |
