Default How can this be?

XXXX was disqualified and fined $1,000 for having his fire bottles pinned while making a pass with his Super Gas entry during the NHRA Lucas Oil Division 3 event at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH held June 2-4. The fine is appealable. The fine will be dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of the Safety Safari.
How can you be fined for having a safety device in a car that is not required in the class and not be using it?
What am I missing here??
To me that is like having a parachute on a car that runs 135 MPH and leaving it pinned. Parachutes are not required unless you are running over 150 MPH but you may want one at your "Short Local track" running 135 MPH. There must be more to this than posted on NHRA Racer

I also noticed that when it was posted.
I think the reasoning is like the current issue with using a head and neck restraint in a category where it is not required with an expired SFI tag.
If you use anything for safety it must be current and operational.
I took note of this due to the fact my old car had fire bottles and I always left pinned all the time.
I did have a huge t handle on the pin I could easily reach to operate the system.
I am sure this disqualification and fine will get lots of attention in all the classes.

Doesn't matter if not required, if it's installed must be operable...
Kinda makes sense...
If not required and not functional why are you toting it?...

Exactly! It’s just like having your pin in your Chute
