Tires
I have a 2002 Chevy 3500 and want some input on tires.
It needs new front tires and I think I read they were LT 215-85R-16 I think they are Courser (Sp?)name brand. They seem to ride pretty good, but are bad weather cracked on the sidewalls. going to pull about a 40 - 45 ft gooseneck with L/Q. Thinking about some Wels/Alcoa's when I change tires. This is my first rodeo with this size tires/truck. Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

Re: Tires
Hi Adger,
My 2002 Dodge 3500 has factory Alcoa 16" wheels and I have used Firestone Transforce HT tires on it. They are LT235/85R/16. I also have the same tires on my 48' GN LQ trailer. Never had any problems, and this is the second set on the truck. Sean

Re: Tires
Buy a quality tire whatever your choice min load range E Firestone/ Hanook,Michelin I personally would stay away from Goodyear--- keep them properly inflated !!!!!!!!! you have a lot of heat to deal with in Texas and heat just kills tires---maybe after like 4 years get new tires the sun also kills them if you do not park the truck inside out of the sun or you are not driving it frequently go get some of those Motorhome tire canvas covers to keep tires covered both truck and trailer--- or prop a sheet of plywood up anything to shield them & keep the sunlight off them

Re: Tires
My experience on the dually as well as motorhome is that Michelins are worth the extra $. Others may require several attempts to balance even with Hunter Road Force.

Re: Tires
My truck (03 3500 Silverado) has Hankook tires, came from a fellow racer, Ronnie Maggart. I swapped to 19.5" wheels (Vision), and I'll never go back.
I actually ended up with a pair of outer rear wheels that have rivets like Centerline wheels that I need to sell. If you want to do what I did on a budget, you can find the GM 19.5" steel wheels on vendor trucks (bread companies, snack companies, tool trucks, etc).

Re: Tires
On all of my dually's that I have owned the best tire was the Firestones. The Transforce is a good tire at a reasonable price. FYI Goodyear was the worst. I had some Dayton Commercial that were real good too.

Re: Tires
Hi,
I use the Michelin 215/85 x 16 load range E ATX tires...... First OEM set I got 85,000 miles of use and the second set I got 100,000 miles........ I have a set them on my 1999 Ram 3500 2x4 Dually Cummins P/U now with about 40,000 miles on them.... I just went on line to check the current price, but I see that tire is not listed anymore and might be discontinued...... So much for a good thing.......... Bob
