Woodfin's second GT project, 1987 Camaro

I understand how some could think, "where did this guy come from?" "I never heard of him and now he is building a second super stocker"

So, a note of explanation.

My story is like many racers who frequent this board. I am a hard core hot rodder since about age 12 friends keep telling me I should write up all my race car builds while I can still remember them and some day I may do that. [if I remember]

The first drag race I attended was in 1963 at White House Drag Strip near Tyler, TX. Driving home from that race I began planning my first drag race car, that was 52 years ago.

Since that day in 1963 I have built and raced;
*stockers
*the old gasser classes
*an altered
*crate motor stock
*super gas
*super comp
* brackets
*stock again, and now back to super stock.

The difference is that I have now gone public. When this forum began the buildup page I watched it for a while then one day I said, "I am ready to race super stock so I will document the build on that forum" Doing so has been a complete pleasure, I have thoroughly enjoyed the Super 10 story telling and the feedback has been delightful to hear.

The second super stocker in the Team Woodfin stable will be drive by one or more of the team members.

So here we go, the story begins with a 1987 RS Camaro "core" for $500.00.

I do not expect to share anything new or innovative with this build because the 3rd gen platform is well sorted out and proven. I do plan to show small details of shop built items that might interest some of you. This build will be approached like the Super 10 in that everything will be done in house.

The engine will be a 1970 Camaro 350/360/325. That engine appeals to me because of big valves, 780 Holley carb, small dome piston. It will run either GT/BA or GT/CA with expected performance of mid 9's

You should be able to get everything you need to build the car from Ed Quay.
Many successful NHRA Super Stock Camaro's have been built with his components.

Good choice on that body. They make excellent super stock cars. Take a look at the Ed Quay built cars and the MPR cars that are out there. That will give you some ideas on how the chassis needs to be done. This will be a much more difficult build than the Super 10. I did a back half on my buddies firebird super stock cars several years ago. Put a 4 link in it and a new cage. Keep the pics coming. I really enjoyed following the truck build.

I have decided to pull the plug on this project.

I will continue to refine the Super 10 and be happy with the experiences.
