Default Charlie Kenopic wins TNT 10.90 Super Series Race at St Thomas Dragway!

SPARTA, ONTARIO (July 9, 2008) In a strong field of Hot Rod racers at the July 5th Benson “Show Me The Money” Tour, Charlie Kenopic from Renfrew Ontario qualified in the #2 spot with a 7.003 and then marched through the field to take the win in the fourth event of the 9-round Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series presented by Performance Unlimited.

“We usually race in Super Rod and have never run this car in a Hot Rod race before. With this event being 1/8th mile, I wasn’t sure we could slow it down enough,” commented Charlie in the St Thomas Dragway Winner’s Circle. “I want to thank Rick & Eric Stroud and family. They help me out a great deal on and off the racetrack.”

Charlie quickly figured out how to slow his 1927 Ford T Roadster to the 7.00 index – posting not one, but two 7.00 runs in qualifying. This set up served him well as he faced off against some stout TNT competition from the likes of Marc Vezina (Straffordville ON), Wayne Sipos (Binbrook ON) and Gary Saska (Ingersoll ON) on his way to the final round. There he met up with current TNT points leader Ted Barnes (Canfield ON). Ted had the advantage off the line (.012 to .033) but couldn’t hold off the Roadster’s top end charge. Charlie took the win light with a 7.014 at 118mph to Ted’s breakout 6.986 at 102mph.

Taking home the #1 qualifier honours and yet another $50 Hoosier Tire Canada certificate was Jamie Stoneman of Cheektowaga NY posting a 7.0001 at 118mph.

Next up on the 2008 Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series is a double race weekend – First to Dunn Tire Raceway Park on Friday August 8th and then to Toronto Motorsports Park on Sunday August 10th.

With the points championship determined by “best 3 Canadian races plus best 3 US races”, things should shake up quite a bit as we head into the rest of the 2008 races. Here are the current points standings after 3 of 9 races complete:

1. Ted Barnes, Canfield ON 256
2. Jamie Stoneman, Cheektowaga NY 214
3. David Surmatchewski, Oakland ON 195
4. Wayne Sipos, Binbrook ON 182
5. Bill Elekes, West Seneca NY 133
6. Gary Saska, Ingersoll ON 123
7. Joe Passero, Stevensville ON 116
8. Charlie Kenopic, Renfrew ON 110
9. Ross Booker, Hamilton ON 104
10. Gary Stowell, Macedon NY 98
