Default Generator help please......

I'm pulling what little hair I have left out over this generator. It is a Kipor 6000thi namebrand. After choking it while cranking, it will start and chug for a moment, then will clean up and run fine. If you have to shut it off for refueling, it will not restart. Cranks over fine, choke, no choke whatever, wont start. Have to prime with a thinner type fluid, sometimes it will start then, some times not. Next day, choke as before and it will start with the same results later. Carb vents are on correctly and the bowl is full of fuel when it wont start. Taking the air box loose or removing the filter does nothing to help. The engine is supposed to be the same as an Onan. It looks and sound identical, too. ANY help is appreciated or if you know a guru, please ask him if I could call him. The RV place where I bought it is out of business and I didnt get any sort of "manual" with it.

Thanks, Wade

Kipor is made in China from what I know about them.....and no it is not likely an Onan engine.

Carburetor issue of some sort.....Did it sit around over the winter unused?

If it did the carb could easily be gummed up.....and it takes very little to cause problems in small engine fuel systems....

I took a Cummins-Onan inverter/generator carb apart a while back that was full of water.....owner said he takes real good care of it......

I do generators almost every day.....

I put a little bit of carb/FI cleaner in the tank once in a while, and a fuel stabilizer in the off season can help keep things clean. I've also heard that it's good to cut the fuel off between the tank & carb and let it run out of fuel when shutting it down for the day. Less gas to evaporate and leave residue.

My guess is there is not enough valve lash, the reason it starts good when cold tells me from experience that the valves may have recessed into the seat,if you check the compression when its hot there will be hardly any,and the valves will be held slightly open, check the valve lash

Thanks for all the help on here and also to Gene Monahan. After removing the carb and disassembling it, I found nothing wrong. Completely clean of any varnish or debris. Still, I cleaned every passage and blew everything out. Reassembled and reinstalled. Magically, it runs and starts like new again. ???

You know this means it WILL do it again, but only when its 100 outside and I really need it.....
