Vacuum pumps in S/G
I have reviewed the many threads here about the use of vacuum pumps and their benefits. But the question still remains, is it a necessity or luxury in S/G? Is the use of a vacuum pump the norm for a super gas motor?

Re: Vacuum pumps in S/G
Well since most super class racers can run >.5 under the index I guess you could view it as a luxury.
However the modest HP increase is OK but the reduction in leaks are a bonus. I Personally use it to stop the milking of the oil that occurs with methanol. I drive mine @ 50% and it was worth 8 HP on thr dyno. my friend who owns the dyno has seen some motors gain up to 30 HP but it depends in a lot of factors such as if your running a low tension oil ring, how fast you spin the pump and how well you engine is sealed up. So is it necessary, probably not, but I think the benefits are worth it.
