Found a copy of the March 79 copy of SSDI mag. There is a 4 page article on the Barrett 73 capri running A/MP. It shows Lambeck with the record at 9.27 in mid 79. gsa612

We held the MPH record in 1986.. Harold Stout( David Rampys sponsor) held both ET an MPH after that.. I think he was first in the 8's. I can stand easily corrected but I do have the certificates for the MPH part so that I am sure of. Seemed fast then.

Dug up a copy of ND Aug.20.82 it shows Shioleno Coleman Alexander Wise 81 Chevy with the A/MP record at 9.19 150.00 set 3-82 at Baton Rouge. This is when M/P ran in comp. elim. When mod. ran it,s own class as of 5-81 the record was held by Reids Auto with a 69 Chevy at 9.41 145.86 set at Englishtown.I don,t know how long M/P ran in comp. till it was dropped. Sherrill Huff was a tough Modified competitior from Kentucky...and might have owned

Anybody know who the last G/MP record holder was...and what was the E.T. ?
As of 5-81 it shows Crawford Benham Jack Lastor at 10.52 128.75 with a 68 chevy. When M/P ran in comp. the lowest class was E/MP. gsa612

Thanks for the info...Forgot that M/P went to Comp...thought it went immediately into
Super Stock. Just can't remember everything...

Do we have an answer for the original question on A/MP record?

Recall the Reid's Auto entry...it was a Camaro driven by a guy named Lucier...think I
saw it once or twice...

Thanks gsa612 for the info on G/MP...I remember when the record was 11.91...by
Blevins in the Nomad...but that was ages ago. I know eventually it got pushed into the
10's...but didn't think it went that deep.

IIRC, I think Tom Haner in the ex-Lambeck 68 Barracuda had it at 9.01 at some point, not sure if he was the last.

Barretts Capri can be seen in the background of this picture. It was at the Cajun Nationals seen here running A/MP.

Why did the N.H.R.A. ever get rid of modified production class?

This was some of the best racing I ever saw and I could never figure out why they got rid of it.

Many don't understand why they got rid of Modified Eliminator. Plenty of cars. More than Comp, which they kept.

To make room for Super Gas. It was a bad move on the part of the NHRA.
