I didn't know that Heavy had a Dodge Dart Sport!

I wonder if "Heavy" was ever challenged to a street race by "Big Willie" or vice versa?

Pete
Eugene Coard (Mutt Bros) had mentioned that in 1971, Big Willie brought one of his Daytona's (King?) to NY to race them, but it didn't happen as they were away racing in Pro Stock at the time. It doesn't make sense though that he'd trailer a car 2,700 miles to race someone without making prior arrangements. He either had other business there, the story is false or Willie had an exaggerated definition of a "road trip." (source: http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...=254432&page=1)

Great Story!!

Carmen Rotonda is 84 years old and the other day I received a phone call from his grandson who is about 62

He asked me if I remembered the "Brooklyn Heavy car" and when I did he told me the car is sitting in his garage at his home.

Many great stories about the old Rontonda's speed shop in Monclair, N.J. from back in the 60's and 70's

He later purchased Pete Van Iderstines Speed Center in Hanover, N.J.

I had forgotten that at one point Camen had driven the car.

How can Carmen's grandson be 62 years old if he's 84?

Which Brooklyn Heavy car are you talking about? As far as I know, both his Challenger and Duster wound up "on the other side of the pond."

More info here:

Perhaps the 1972 Chevrolet Vega is the car in Carmen's garage? I believe this was Grumpy's first Pro Stock Vega but don't quote me on that.

Pete:

Sorry about the age I got that wrong.

He told me on the phone it was the "Brooklyn Heavy car"

Now as far as which one it is I am not sure because I did not ask him that question.
