Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Test fitting today of pickup and oil pan. One of the pickups is missing the screen. Thank goodness I still have some of Patsy's stainless steel strainer to cover the end of the pickup. Maybe I will get some pistons assigned and rings gapped. That should use up most of the day.

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
P W clearance has to be adjusted. We will be at Jeff Taylor's shop Thursday A.M. to put two thirds the thickness of a hair more clearance in the engine. I will pick up some Nord's Bakery gems to nibble on during the process. I like the idea of using a profilometer to ensure surface finish.

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
267.3 miles one way to Jeff's place with two bridge tolls to cross the river. I did see and started to count Dollar stores but I lost count. Conway Witten is working with Jeff and it was good to see him and get caught up. I did get to view some pretty cool stuff. Boss 429 under construction and an aluminium block Hemi in process.
The coolest thing was a LS1 street rod engine on the dyno and it made almost race car power on pump gas. Man they sure do sound good on the pull. It was a good day, long but good. I would show you pictures but the sign on the door said no cameras or video. I took some picture before I saw the sign so.............. Last edited by Larry Hill; 06-07-2019 at 07:42 AM. |

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
If you do go to Jeff's shop stop by Nord's Bakery and pickup some maple frosted long johns with a strip of bacon on top. It won't get you any discount but a happy machinists is a good machinists.

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Seems as though Nords bakery may be guilty of adding BALLAST to the flying elephant....

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
I got to use a Total Seal Ring Filer to set end gap on my rings. What a quality piece of equipment. I practiced on an old ring to get the feel of increasing as little as .0005'', I think, end gap. It has a deburring wheel for the ends of the ring, for me that will take a little practice. I prefer using a Dremel tool with an rubber abrasive wheel to deburr. Ends of the ring were 90* and parallel, all I had to do was follow directions.
I have tried the Pro Form filer and it is just a classic example of junk off the "Boat" that does not repeat. It's time for the blocks final bath before assembly, yes! |

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
I was just looking at that ring filer last week, I use a friends ABS filer and it's $1200. The Total Seal is like $700, looks real nice.
