Didn't think it was that hard to figure out. If I never travel the country, I'll never be a "national" champion.

"I raced at some local tracks and now I'm the champion of the whole country" Say it out loud..yup it does sound that stupid.
If somebody lived where I do and was a really good racer, they could race at Rt 66,Norwalk,St Louis,Indy,Earlville,Cordova, and not have to travel very much and be "World Champ"
These are all within about 320 miles or so and could be considered "local tracks"

This is not a FACT but I would be willing to bet a lot on the fact that there is less than 10 racers that make their living solely off of racing.I mean winnings only. The cost to travel all over the country from coast to coast ,race fuel, engine cost ,tires plus entry fees

I would agree with you when it comes to NHRA class racing.

However, some of the big buck bracket racers might do pretty well. The guy that won the Million yesterday supposedly split and got $80,000.That would pay some bills.

What most people dont realize is that that 80 k was probably not what that racer won.A hired driver might get 20 % of winnings BUT that 80 K was chopped up at 10 racers In reality the winner might only end up with 5000 Sorry but that is the truth

There is a thread on Dragraceresults about this.I guess he could have got $200,000 if he didn't split.

Since we're all entitled to our opinion, mine is that getting your online magazine some exposure on classracer.com was your goal.

Flame away.

I do love reading the entire classracer website. Back to the nostalgia forums I go.

442OLDS you are right about living in Il. I live in Springfield and can run 8 division races and 6 national events and my longest trip would be Norwalk which is about 450 miles. This year my son and I ran 3 divisionals (Indy, Joliet and Cordova) and 2 Opens (Gateway an Indy) and could have ran 3 National events (Joliet, Indy and St. Louis) without ever going 200 miles from home.
My son has the 5 grade points for next year so all we need is about $15,000 and we could take a shot at a Division and National top 10.

At 10 it would have been 28k. At least that is what the discussion was about between the 10. Maybe they paid those entries and still couldn't add?
