Default Re: Sportsman Council phone conference Tonight!

The two races in one weekend thing doesn't really strike me as economically sound.. right now, I go to a 3 day Division race on Thursday, which makes it a 4 day race, and go to a 4 day National event on Wednesday, which makes it a 5 day race.. are we suggesting that racers go on unemployment for the race season, cause employers certainly don't allow that much time off during the year.. or are most racers self employed??.. I don't know.. but in these times, a double could cause more headaches than the savings are worth.. just my opinion..

My opinion (and I'll keep this short as possible):

1. Keep the Scotty rule. Is S/St an entry level class? Well, as far as racing in the .90 classes it is. Good luck being competitive in S/G with a back-halved car that only runs in the mid-9's. S/St already has limited national events, and I don't think it would be fair to take those particular entry spots away from somebody that only has 1 car so a touring pro sportsman could race S/St rather than the more difficult S/G. Plus, it evens the playing field more by not giving the advantage to the guy that can afford to race 2 cars.

2. Leave the indexes alone. Lowering the indexes 0.5 seconds in S/G and S/C is NOT going to fix the problem, it is just going to make it worse. People will simply make their cars faster and the chasm between S/St and S/G will grow even more than it is now.

3. Double races - If it can be scheduled such that you can fit two races into 1 weekend WITHOUT somebody having to take an extra day off of work, I'd be for it. Right now for a typical LODRS event that is Fri - Sun, a working man can leave Thursday night after work, race all weekend, and be back to work Monday morning. If adding a second race would require adding a day to the schedule (i.e. racing takes place from Thursday to Sunday), then leave the races as singles. Would it lower the cost to have two races in one weekend? Sure, but that doesn't mean that people could afford to take the extra day off (sarcastically, why not run the entire season over the course of one month at a single track, as that would certainly cut down on travel costs).

I know this wasn't part of the initial conversation, but for God's sake add S/St to more national events, and have a national points system for it! If you want to keep the costs down, instead of claiming the best 3 of 5 nationals and 5 of 8 divisionals, make it 2 of 3 nationals and 3 of 5 divisionals. Almost EVERYBODY going to a national event is going to have grade point of at least 3. Add one more national event in each division, and if somebody wanted to chase the national S/St title, they can without ever having to leave their division and would most likely only be going to one additional race (an extra national event). S/St would then still only be contested at half of the national events.

And anybody that doesn't agree with me is wrong (and stupid).

Agree on keeping the Scotty rule...not everybody has a stacker and like me it's one or the other....

Don't agree on double races; as previously pointed out a prior and important obligation would kill your points chances.

In my opinion the double point races would work better at the sport nationals, if a sports national could be added to each division. No alky cars = LOTS more time. 2 TT/Qual Friday and race 2-3 rounds, Sat: finish 1st race then 1 TT/qual for 2nd race and possible 1st round. Race Sun and everyone is heading home early. Lots of cars already attend these races, so it's kinda a win/win for everyone.

Keep the Scotty rule...........Anybody who thinks SST is an entry level class has no idea what they're talking about. However, as someone else pointed out, letting the multi-car teams in SST would leave lots of us with only 1 car on the sidelines at national events and push more of us away from NHRA (unless that is their intention). Also, as others have said, 1 or 2 more national events per division would be great! Kinda sucks to pay the same entry, license, membership, cert and safety fees as everyone esle, and get treated like the toe headed, bow legged, butt tooth, basdard children of the sport. A national points system would be excellent, but now we're really dreaming.

SST 1st round on Saturday at divisionals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave the indexs alone........I run 10.30 flat out, so if that happens......SEE YA LATER!!!!!!!!!!!

I say GET RID OF ALCOHOL (the class not the drinks), and have friday as time runs, and saturday have one time run and race eliminations until we cant anymore, then on sunday NO TIME RUNS, and race another race, and complete what was not completed on saturday. Obviously would have to give more time for those in late from the sat race and racing the sun race too (especially with double entries)

As far as alcohol, let them run at the national events and exibition events only. not for nothing they screw up the track and take WAY too much time more than the benefit of the additional spectators. Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will be bringing in the spectators, so we dont need ALCOHOL!
