Awesome thread - lots of history and lots of great pictures. I’m glad to see so many deserving Pontiac racers get placed on this list like the Burtons and the Schloes. Both of those families have made my racing life such a blast with their advice, assistance, friendship and hospitality over the years (despite the fact that I’m a Chevy guy) especially the Schloes.
As far as the fast Pontiac guys - I’d like to add Bob Mulry (Mulry/Aceves Racing) and Bryan Phillips into the list.....lots of Class wins and records for those two teams....not to mention all around good people. This thread has been great - please add more pictures if you have them. |

It looks much better in the sun, had to get it painted after it was called one of the ugliest stockers a few years ago in Vegas when it was still silver.

My favorite colors have always been silver & black. Ordered my '69 RA3 GTO silver with black interior. Kept it that color thru 60k+ street miles & 2 seasons of Stock Elim racing at local tracks. Just another proof that opinions differ. Some like red, yellow, or green. I never have. Don't have a clue why not everyone likes the same colors, smells, or foods. "...I’d like to add Bob Mulry (Mulry/Aceves Racing) and Bryan Phillips into the list.....lots of Class wins and records for those two teams..."
Yeah, I just ran across both those names as US Nats class winners, in 2004. Mulry had a '74 Formula, & of course Phillips has a '67 Bird. Phillips won E/SA & Mulry won K/SA. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop It was an all Pontiac K/SA final, with another white Bird in the other lane, driven by Don Holmes. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop I like the silver '68 Bird that Bob Aceves drives. And speakin of silver '68's, I like the the stick version that Adam Strang drives. Last edited by oldskool; 12-21-2019 at 02:21 AM. |

Since my wife raced '68 Birds, I've always liked 'em. Here's a Gillespie Bird driven by Julie Biermann.
Ronald Prince has one. Todd Hoven has one. Todd now drives a Mopar. Duane has been driving the Bird. There's a story behind the Bird. I think Todd got it from Truman Fields, For a while he painted it up as a tribute to Truman's "Hard Times" Bird, which was the car that made Truman my first Pontiac hero. Todd has explained the whole story about the car to me. But, I may get it all messed up. So, I'll just leave it at that. Leo Glasbrenner ran a '68. Lately, he's been racing a late model in Stock, and his 4th gen GT car in SS. Don't know if he plans on running the '68 next season, or not. Last edited by oldskool; 12-30-2019 at 12:34 PM. |

Gotta give a special shout out to Brent Flynn. When I 1st discovered this site, he had a build thread going, switching his '68 Bird from a 455 bracket car, over to a 400 powered Stocker.
And, he was trying to do it on a budget. I REALLY enjoyed following his build. |
