Jeff can you give me one example of someone being toss while trying to set a national racord and then getting time off? I can't

No disrespect to anyone but the part # is listed in the guide . I know Holbrook can read and the NHRA tech people could read the number on the head. I think we can all agree on that . Call it what you want but it was the wrong casting number for the head .

The Fact is that Holbrook did use the wrong head's when the numbers were clearly visible to everyone and went 1500 miles to try and set a national record with the wrong numbers on the heads. He did not get tossed , got no HP and the AHFS failed

Charlie, call me and I will give you someone who will tell you that people have set national records at opens and been sealed up to tear down later , got the hp, when they torn down they failed and the HP stayed on . This person is well known and a long time racer 30 plus years

The only point I'm trying to make is that there should not be a loop hole in setting a national record that circumvent's the AHFS system

Hats off to Jim Collins and company for checking those casting numbers

Charley, A few years ago at great bend kansas points meet, a racer was driving a stocker that was not his car, set record and exhaust port was to big and got 1 year off, couldn't race any other class car, The same car was driven by a well know converter builder at west coast sports national the same year and I don't known if it was every rechecked. I set record at Kearney open this year and had to much intake lift .006 and I got letter from nhra that said I couldn't race until I got it rechecked and I couldn't race my other car. Tom

About 7 years ago I tore down for the M/S record, and I was bounced for being 4/10s of 1 cc under the combustion chamber minimum volume. I had to load up my car and parts, and leave the track, forfeiting my entry fee. The division director informed me that he would have to talk to NHRA Tech HQs in California on the following Monday regarding any disciplinary action. Since this was my first attempt at setting a recond, and it was not a blatent offence ( I knew that I would have to tear down for the record, so obviously I THOUGHT everything was legit), so I did not get any suspension period. But he said that it was not unheard of for a racer to get a year off depending on the situation. I did have to show up at the next race with the head off so that NHRA Tech could measure the chamber volume again to ensure the condition had been adressed before I was able to compete in Stock again.
Also, I seem to recall a few years ago that a S/S racer on this site was given a 1 year "vacation" from racing for having an illegal crankshaft, even though the stroke was correct. So it has happened before.

Charlie, it has happened, usually it's some honest mistake, but paid vacations have been awarded on record runs. Too early in the morning. How about 'Trust Me'.

Let's try this for the sake of argument. What if all of the 50 2013 Cobra Jets and all of the 5.0 motors that Ford Motorsport sold had the same casting #'s that Chris had on his heads? AND what if after the run Chris was preoccupied trying to remember if he put ice in the beer cooler for the evening festivities and forgot to stop at the scales. This could be a real head scratcher for some of you guys. Get your facts before you try to expert this situation.

Just a little story about Ford and NHRA engine blueprint sheets. Back in 2006, I was trying to get Ford to classify my 2003 Mustang Cobra for NHRA. I sent all part number's to Ford, so they could verify the numbers and send them to NHRA. NHRA put it in the guides and said it was legal and ready to go. For some reason something told me to check the guides and make sure the numbers all matched!! Well low and behold Ford had a number or letter missing, can't remember which one. And, they had a letter that didn't belong. SO it took me calling Jesse Kershaw, who finally got the right numbers to NHRA. It can happen.

It wouldn't surprise me about NHRA having the wrong numbers. They had goofed up on a few things on the 2013s in the guide that were incorrect. Jesse had to contact them to get those items corrected. That is the unfortunate part of adding a new car to a guide(new or old combo). It usually takes a little bit to get it straightened out.

The heads that the 2013 CJ uses are the stock 2012-2013 Boss 302 heads which are a different casting number then the standard 2011-2013 GT heads because it uses different grade of aluminum and a few other differences. The only place to get the heads is off a wrecked car or buy from an Ford Racing Performance Parts dealer for either of the heads. The 2012 5.0 Cobra Jet used the standard GT heads.

Maybe Ford did a revision to the heads and there by creating a different casting number on the later Boss 302 heads and the information wasn't transferred to Ford Racing/NHRA or the NHRA simply goofed up when putting it into the guide(which has happened on multiple occasions). There has been people get bounced for part infractions that were 100% has the car was delivered which really is a tough situation.
