Dan, if you took all of your time spent on the internet and spent half the time working and the other half wrenching you'd have a 1.20 under car in no time.

If you can put a Chevy engine in your Mustang Pro Stock, I don't think Crate motors and Pure Stocks are too far out of align for Stock......just my thoughts.

I have been restoring my 1969 Impala for last 20 years. Owned since 1974. Frame off Chassis, powder coated, rewelded and reinforced for Stock. Putting it back together and just got painted. Have a Budd Rowe Engine, needs roll bar, interior, lots of little parts. If I go NHRA Stock Racing it will be this car. A natural L car, ran it as M/SA car, plan to move up to K/SA. Have some unanswered questions. Best auto and converter, headers, mufflers, Seats, harnesses. Needs mufflers for the neighborhood. Has 5.13 and new beefed up Eaton Posi. 350/280/ Refactored to 275. It is for sale if someone wants to finish it. D |

My passion shows in the 7(that's seven) NHRA legal Stock Eliminator cars that are in different states of running condition that are in and around my garage. I am however, not restoring my cars or trying to race semi-collectables as Pure Stockers because I don't want to ruin my investment. Why don't you just come out of the closet and let us all know why you really are pushing Pure Stock for NHRA? My stuff is all good junk and I'm OK with that. Just FYI, I wouldn't cut up your Impala SS either but there's still plenty of Caprices out there that I would cut up.

I think this thread may have jumped the shark along the way but I thought I’d weigh in anyway.
Sealed crate engines have been proposed to NHRA several times recently for inclusion in Super Stock. There was some interest but it came down to how to accurately rate them. It needs to be low enough the cars can qualify at national events but it would be unfair to rate them so low that they can run to the top of the qualifying sheet. This is where it got hung up. Personally I think a sealed class for SS/GT would be a good thing. Ford and Chevy both have sealed engines along with the electronics to run them. Dodge might as well but I haven’t checked, if they don’t it’d be easy enough to do. It is very cost effective and reliable at ~$8k for engine and controller with most racers getting hundreds of runs without issues. Plus the aftermarket support for these engine platforms (Coyote&LS) is huge so putting it in most popular platforms would be fairly straight forward and maybe you get some new contingency sponsors. This has worked well for NMRA and NMCA racers in a heads-up format and have no doubt it would work in a SS format as well.
