Sir, w/all respect, what I meant by "stock" was: stock whls and tires, stock clutch, stock computer tune, and stock weight....NOT NHRA stock. I love the car...we're lucky they produced it... but GM, w/the new Camaro, has made it difficult for 1/4 mi. racer fun once again, for both novice and pro. The car's weight, the IRS rear, a brake/caliper combination so large that 20" wheels are mandatory, factory computer tune way too conservative, along with a very weak clutch.... Pure stock, things mentioned above, these LS3 cars are running low 14's--high 13's at best w/ 60 ft.s of 2.0 and higher. W/a computer tune that eliminates some big time torque management, and a awesome-shifting driver, a FEW are running low 13's, which is about the same as the '98-'02 LS1 F-bodies were running--stock. It's my opinion only, that they surely need a strong straight axle rear, w/somewhat down-sized rear brakes,which would solve the problem of putting a decent gear, a lightweight wheel/good-hooking tire on the car, shedding considerable weight at the same time...I don't know, probably GM could care less about us weekend warrior drag racers...Then, who knows, maybe M/T or someone else will start making great hooking 20" drag radials and some will make the IRS setup work...It should be interesting to see who is 1st to have these things flying at the track...just my .02 cents worth, from the land of non-altitude-adjusted et's... Yes, SS cars weigh 4100+. The Challenger 6cyl is actually lighter than the Camaro 6cyl though, around 3900.

Here is how to get 1000lbs out of them though (drag pack spec's)

 Approximately 1000 lbs lighter than production vehicle.
o No body sealer / sound deadener / undercoat.
o No windshield wiper assembly.
o No HVAC system.
o No rear seats.
o No power steering system.
o No underbody heat shields.
o No fuel tank assembly.

 Special cable operated deck lid release.
 Special cable operated throttle pedal and linkage.

Ive spoken to guys that work on the line in the plant, they cant believe all the layers upon of layers of sound deadening that goes into them, even they believe it to be excessive...and heavy.

That's a good point. I wonder what they stop like with big and littles on 15" wheels. Any pictures if that even looks right?

I'm not sure where you got your weights but your off by a bit. Here are the weights for the most powerful version of each car.

Mustang GT500 3,920lb
Camaro SS 3,860lb
Challenger SRT8 4,140lb

Now the v-6 versions.
Mustang 3,545lb
Camaro 3,728lb
Challenger 3,819lb

I'm sure we'll see the 2010 Camaro running in NHRA stock and stock/automatic before too long, once it's determined where they will be put....(they do really need a good diet). Something that looks that fast, will definitely be made to go real fast....once the boys here get ahold of a few of them... Best wishes. WJ

You might not see a Camaro any time soon.. No one to promote[ CHEVY employees] the HP issue.. @400 hp needs to be rated @ 325 [auto] 425 stick [350] which should be equal to Challenger.. Unless you buy a fullly loaded Camaro to build you can not order a strip down model. I put mine on the lift and well it neat but alot of work to build. NHRA needs to help with this combo.. It WOULD make a nice race car

A friend has a auto. Says he wants to make it go 11's and still be streetable. He's already done e.f.i. live computer tuning, Yank 3600 converter. Needs some tires, gear and headers, and it should, 3900+ raceweight and all ...time will tell. WJ
