I decided I want a six...I just can't stop thinking about a six. I know it doesn't make the best sense to some, but it excites me to try it. I even have a local sponsor who would kick in more if I did the six, because "it's not that boring bellybutton crap".
It appears there are only 2-3 200 Fords out there, so this looks like exciting unchartered territory...IF the Fairmont would truly be a V-car. It may be nuts, but it also may be a chance for greatness. Plus that car benefits from Fox-body goodies and I already have a Fox-body 8.8 rear axle. I talked to the guy with the Aspens, might be able to scoop up a couple of them very cheaply, and the wrecking yard here has slant sixes and F-bodies abound. I could go GM, but no one has a decent pre-70 GM that I could stuff a 230 into. I'm still in planning, but for sure it will be a six; it seems like there's alot of parity as well as a decent amount of cars running V, so someday I would have a shot at some heads-up action. That would be awesome. The Rambler needs floorpans for sure, so I will put it on the backburner. Maybe the six becomes the stepping stone into a higher class V8 car... Thanks again for everyone's help. I never realized there was this much thought and science into this...I think I was up all last night researching various things, and I was digging around my cars in the snow all afternoon! |

So, is V/SA basically Slant Sixes, Fords, GM 230's and carbed 231 V6's? Anything else frequent this class? I'm still waiting for my rulebook to arrive, so I'm going off of known combinations and their factor...

you think that was a lot of work? just wait till you start building, and then get the car running, and then tring to at least run your index, and then etc. etc. etc. you get the idea! lol!!!

Dave, Would a '64-'66 valiant with a 225 and a 4-speed be a viable car for V/S, it would still have the 1bbl carb but it's a pretty light combo. Jim |

A body 8 3/4 through 1970 had 5 on 4 inch bolt circle axles with 7/16 studs. 74 was the last year for 8 3/4 in A body. They went to 8 1/4 in 75 and up. |

It would have to be a station wagon or convertible. Those cars did run good back then with the 4 speeds, but 135 hp is kinda high with a 1 bbl

In response to someone's question about "A" body 8-3/4 housings,
yes they are harder to find, yes they will cost more to buy, BUT you can take a 8-3/4 out of a truck, a "B" body or "C" body and have it cut down to stock "A" body measurements and then just add aftermarket axles and either a "sure-grip' (lock-rit) or a spool. I've had 3 of the cut down truck and "C" body housings done in the last few years. The shop I use charges about $250 including new spring pads. If your a good welder I suppose you could do it yourself with a cut off saw and make a jig to hold it all in place.
