Re: Trsiler Tiers OR Light Truck?
I thought I would chime in and give our recent tire episodes: '01 30' Tri axle Pace bought new. 15" OEM Goodyears lasted 3 seasons, 2nd set about same. Started losing tires via separating tread about 2010. Did not matter whose Chinese Trailer Tire it was. We were killing at least 1 tire per trip. Same trailer, car, payload since new. In August '16 I finally got smart, went to GY Wrangler HT 225/75 16" Light Truck tire, load range "E".It was tough buying 7 wheels and tires but it solved our problem. We travel 10K plus a year, tires look great, and since have installed same setup on my Trailer Toad and companion trailer we use. That's 15 tires and wheels in last few months, but NO blowouts, etc. Rick Pennington GT/P #2022

Re: Trsiler Tiers OR Light Truck?
Took tips to heart this weekend racing at Mason Dixon.
Pumped the Loadstar tires past 65max to 67psi. Smooth ride, cruised at 60mph most of the trip. Down hill touched 70 briefly. Let the extra speed bleed off at next hill, back to 60. Traffic zipped by me which was fine by me. Except for couple incidents where two cars passed simultaneously. Then tried to take command of the middle lane at same time. D |

I've used the EEZRV Products unit for about 4 years now. Works great. I also installed the signal booster. You can watch the tire pressures and temps while driving. It really has taken alot of anxiety out of the drive. No more looking back at the trailer every time there is a bump in the road. Dan

Time to upgrade to something like that. Though the trailer does well with 6 ply, are 8 ply any safer? Dan |

Looks like it's worth looking into. If you don't realize one tire is going down, it's overloading and damaging the remaining tire(s) setting you up for another failure.
I guess if it saves 2-3 tires, it pays for itself!

Re: Trsiler Tiers OR Light Truck?
My TPMS has saved me from a blowout on the highway at least three times. The other nice feature is that when you are loading everything up, you can check the tire pressures on both vehicles just by looking, and not having to physically check each tire. You set the high/low pressures on the unit and it will start beeping when it hits that setting. I went into a truck stop and parked to eat, 30 minutes later when I was getting back in my truck, i got a warning about a trailer tire being low. Valve stem had cracked. Saved me from a blowout on the side of the road.

Re: Trsiler Tiers OR Light Truck?
Dan . For the difference in price go to a E or 10 ply tire. The cost difference shouldn't be that much.

Re: Trsiler Tiers OR Light Truck?
I just ordered a set of Goodyear Endurance 235/80/16" for my trailer and they came to $163.00 per tire mounted and balanced.
My local dealer does not have much experience with the Endurance ST tires as he usually recommends going to a LT tire. I get them put on Wednesday, so I am anxious to see how they handle compared to my 8 year old Goodyear Marathons. We use my car trailer to go to Sturgis every year and I want to avoid tire trouble in dealing with the heat and traffic going out there in August.

Re: Trsiler Tiers OR Light Truck?
I am a fleet manager for a City fleet of about 250 vehicles and pieces of equipment. We have about 25 trailers and for the most part they never leave the City. We have been using the Goodyear Marathons and they worked for us but were a really soft in the sidewall tire. The Goodyear Endurance is all around much beefier and especially the sidewalls.
I have a 24' enclosed trailer that I put tires on a couple years ago that were China made. While not a fan at the time they were the best I could find. Westlake is the brand. I wish the Endurance was an option then as that is what I would have. Going to the 16" LT tires is the pretty much bullet proof solution used by people I know that tow alot. Failure rate to virtually zero. |

16", 10 ply LT Michlean tires stopped my problems, and towed smoother, more stable. I don't put Goodyears on anything.
