Re: engine choice?
Can't the side bars be welded to a 6x6 bolted plate as well as the other braces? What if no sub frame connectors, for the bar braces to "weld" to? Wording in rule book is contradictive somewhat, one can "bolt" in the roll bar but the braces have to welded to subframe, page 212-D & 205-4:10. Most of this was written 40-50 years ago (when the fastest Super Stocker ran in the 11s or high 10s) ,maybe time for clarification or update.

Re: engine choice?
The welding to subframe connectors is optional if you have a rollbar instead of a cage. Look at the rule book for the minimum required installation.

Re: engine choice?
now that this thread has been completely hijacked, time to add another question. I am going the 318 route now. What are the best years for 318 blocks as far as deck and wall thickness?

Re: engine choice?
I tried to stay on point for you. Just find anything as early as you can 66-72 dates are best. Most of these should be nearly free. For years I paid scrap value for 273 engines.

Re: engine choice?
Paul, you were directly on Point, it was the roll bar and other discussions that went into another direction. I have a couple of 273 blocks here at my place if you want them

I believe I originally brought up the roll bar issue since I was reluctant to put one in my 340 Barracuda. I guess it could always be cut out.
