Re: What would be the min size truck to tow 24 foot enclosed
I use an F550 conversion (had it to tow my 48' LQ trailer)to tow my 24' featherlite. I was going to sell it and get a smaller pickup to save money on mileage. Looked at what I could get for it as compared to the price of a smaller truck. Decided to keep it. I have since replaced the transmission (went for the money $5000). Now I'll keep the truck till it stops running (should get at least another 200,000 miles towing).
I only get 10 mpg towing and won't go much over 65 mph due to the 4.88 gears. But when I go to stop it stops, when a tractor trailer or bus blows by me on a highway I don't know they are there till I see them. I don't have any sway bars or an equalizer hitch. It's 10 mpg but the peace of mind is priceless.

Re: What would be the min size truck to tow 24 foot enclosed
2006 dodge ram 2500 (not dually) cummins mega cab short bed, towing 28' champion trailer loaded with dragster and scooter. weight bars 4 wheel trailer brakes prodigy brake controller.
phila to florida and back 70mph average speed 14 mpg never downshifted except to pass. easy to drive, towed same trailer phila ohio with 2004 dodge 2500 regular cab 5.7hemi, did not like hills as much, but as you can see we travel at 70 or more, mileage 10 to 12mpg not as good on highway as truck is probably 1000lbs lighter than diesel |

Re: What would be the min size truck to tow 24 foot enclosed
We towed the Drag Pak coast to coast in a 24 foot car mate with a 99 Ram 1500 with 318 engine. Good brake controller in the truck and load levelers on the hitch.
The engine had 180K on it when it dropped a rod. I am currently putting another 318 into it. David The New Hemi Guy |

Post what truck you find, and we can discuss "features" and "weaknesses" by the model year. Nothing is perfect, especially when towing very heavy trailers with highly uprated power.
