Mr. Arnew,
I thought I'd put you back on top of the thread-page, where you belong. OK, Your 68' Hemi Cuda. Visited Dover Drag Strip, New York, probably early 1970. The Sunday was a little cold. Your car was the Sox & Martin SS/B car. Which won the 69' Springnationals (June 69) 69' Indy Nationals (September 69') 69' World Finals (October 69') Does that sound correct. I know Sox & Martin had a couple of 68' cars, for Match-Race Events and AHRA Meets. Dover had several good S/S ($$$) events back in 70', when they were NHRA-sanctioned. Your Cuda had the familiar center white-stripe and Keystones. A Bill Stiles Performance front license-plate. OH, I almost forgot. The front wheels were off the ground. Paul |

Mr. Arnew, I never got to meet you personally, but do remember you racing, in the late 60s and early 70s in super stock. Do you remember who bought the 68 Cuda from you, when you sold it and who might have the cuda now if it still exists. This is great stuff to thihk that 150 original cars started all this 40 years ago and we still are talking about it.

I sold my 68 cuda in late 1973, it went to Al & Bobby Carpenet they lived in Washington Pa.When I delivered the car they had a Plymuoth wing car in the garage. Don't know if they still have that one, but I know they still have the cuda. I talked to them about a year ago. I know it's not gone racing for a few years. Last time I saw any pictures it was at the York Pa show 3 or 4 years ago. SURE WISH I HAD IT NOW !

Jack,
Your all over the place now. 71' Pro/Stock meet at Dover (May 71' ) Participants; Ken Montgomery, 68' Cuda (w/69' trim and trunk molding) Bill Stiles 70' Duster (w/71' grille) Ed Miller 70' Duster MIMI (69' Camaro) Does that sound close? OH, You must have been in Pro/Stock. Your Cuda had a fiberglass spoiler under the front splash-pan. Also, in the photo, you can see a buckle in the rear quarter-panel above the tire. Looks like the rivet-pins were under a little stress ![]() As for some paint details. You car had the center-stripe on the hood as well as over the roof. The Sox & Martin (68' Indy car) had only the hood stripe. Damn, How many cars did Sox & Martin have. Heard they got an early Christmas present from Chrysler as the 1968 production year ended in August/September ![]() Paul |

Paul, i'll try to contact the Carpenet brothers an get the vin # from the car, with that we may solve the question as to which vehicle realy did win the 68 nationals. Did not make Maple Grove thought it vwas going to be a rain out for sure. Saw some pictures on the net and am suprised they got to run Sunday at all. From the shots looks like you could do deep sea fishing in the pits!!!

Jack,
Found some film of the 1970 Pro Stock Circuit Event at Dover Drag Strip, in April 1970. Got you running a 10.33 in defeating Ken Montgomery's Barracuda in Round 1. The week earlier, you won the first ever NHRA Pro Stock Circuit event at Cecil County. Round 2 you missed a shift, and got beat by Bob Banning (Dart). pc |
