Ain't she pretty,
(April 1965) 1965 Plymouth S/SA. Not all 'tartered up',,,,,, Very trick suspension on this car,,,, Most of the Super Stock Mopars back then,,,,,,, When leaving the line, first the back-end lifted, then it launched off the line,,, But the Black Arrow,,,,,was pre-loaded,,,,,,the back-end never lifted, it just launched,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ![]() |

Hemi Moose: The Greg Charney Dodge you asked about belonged to Walt Ulrich of Royal Oak Mi. He was an eng. builder for Chrysler. He had it sitting in his back yard, I don't know wher he got it, but had it for a few yrs. He and Greg put it togather and won Indy with it. Don't remember when either '70 or 71. Greg worked as a dyno op. with Walt for Chrysler. Walt, a good friend of mine, is in his upper 70's was a origional member of The Golden Cammandos. If any know where Walt got this Dodge, (an origional 990 ) feel free to add to this.

Is it just the angle or was the front track narrowed on the front of this one?

Here's the California Flash (Super/Stock Stick car) at Indy 1965.
According to Butch Leal, he bought this car in August 1965 (3 weeks before the Indy Nationals) Leal and Sissener Racing Team ![]() Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 01-15-2012 at 09:09 PM. |

I recall reading and being told back in the day that the second generation California Flash '65 was not an original A990 car.

Les Norton has one. He purchased it from Tom Howell out of kansas to arizona. It was a altered wheelbase at one time, car then converted back. Les usually brings it out to run it at Denver. It is painted like the old Bagwell car but I dont think it is. Tom howell knew ALL the history on it. I know he does not do the computer thing but maybe Les will.

Just seems to appear narrow. Thought maybe they were looking at some possible performance advantage. |
