Billy, is it fair to shoot for a UTI4U1K with a previous bracket car or is that considered cheating? I would think it would be like having spare parts lying around..their just installed already? LOL!
3500 converter (not enough but installed)
OEM c-4 with shift kit
9" with 4.86's
29.5 x 9 MT's

Scared to keep an expense list though in case the wife finds it!

How can it be cheating to plan something out in your own mind, build something with your own hands and improve on it by your own means? Other than what's in black and white in the NHRA Rules, the only rules are; plan it yourself, build it yourself, RACE IT! and have fun! And involve as many of your buddies as you can in the build!

Thanks Billy,
Hopefully you have inspired a few people to "do it yourself" ,and join the fun here.
The converter experience you had reminded me to point this out...You don't have to spend $800 + to get started.
Case in point:
I had a reader here from NM contact me about a 245 mm converter he bought at a swap meet for $50.
It was nothing fancy...just a starting point. I was able to raise the stall up considerably , swap out the stator, and spot weld all the non - furnace brazed fins for a couple of hundred bucks... It would work well for a 302 ,C4 Ford project to get it under the index.
Look around, ask around..See what's out there...I don't charge anything to cut a converter open and have a look.

LOL! The question was more tongue in cheek than anything, I threw it out there since it was your idea or "rules" for the UI4U1K.

Might post some pictures of my rusty junk in a bit.

Thanks for the offer Mark, I'll let you know when I get to that point.

A big old pile of snow that was laying along side my shop finally melted away and there is an ugly old black and silver GP there now! And it seems to be calling to me, wanting me to show it some attention.
Well, it's gonna have to compete with an even bigger and uglier white LTD for my attention this year!

Had a 1969 Galaxie XL 429/360 as my tow car.
That car was heavy, wallowy and tough to stop in an emergency.
But it did get up and go.

My friends named it the Interceptor...

Billy I think the Pontiac needs some love this year. This was one of my favorite threads from last year and it was one that most of us blue collar workers can relate to
