What is your budget? There are more 85 GT stockers than traditional SS cars in competition. A stocker 4-5 speed vs a SS 4-5 speed clutchless will have a cost difference. A set of legal SS heads will be no less than 6K and more if you use the replacement aluminum head.

I’m definitely leaning towards ss I have specific questions about the motor what intake manifold are they using stock ford or what aftermarket intake is available are most using a stock carb or Holley aftermarket.

Definitely not using a stock Ford intake for Super Stock.
A lot of super stock guys use custom made sheet metal intakes, but there are several single plane intakes available as well. Any carb is going to have to be massaged by someone This is just my opinion, but if you start with a new quick fuel or a Holley 600, I think you would end up about the same place performance wise.

Looking at rule book under intake manifold it says any manifold of same configuration as original. You can use a sheet metal intake?? Damn

What that means is the carb has to be in the same relative place. Anything else goes, as long as it will fit under the hood

Ok so original carb and heads and short block anything goes for cam valve train and intake manifold

When you say original short block, what exactly are you thinking of? Just the block or the internals?

I just didn’t realize that ss was allowed so many mods like sheet metal intake manifolds. But the short block is relatively stock

About the only thing "stock" in a Super Stock short block is the location of the bolt holes.
