Re: 12 bolt gear breaking problems....
Even a 9" with a transbrake should use a pro-gear. The shock of the transbrake is hard on parts. Will find the weak link for you. Weight is a factor in all this.

eric my super stocker weighs 3860 pounds and i use a 12 bolt you definatly need a pro gear i use richmond and then ive got a lpw suport cover and axel braces if you hook hard it will pull the tubes forward putting force on the bearing caps the braces stop this and i have had no problems with breakage

Re: 12 bolt gear breaking problems....
Jeff brought up another good point. Axle tubes do need alot of attention. I welded mine with a wire feed welder and thought it would be ok. But it failed. I had a shop replace welds with nickel rod i believe and have not had a problem. Definitly do something proper with the tubes. Brace and or weld. Its better to do it when everything is straight and not messed up by improper welding like i did. A hooking car using a transbrake will tear up a 12 bolt. GUARANTEED.
