It doesn't take long.Load Google World and on the main screen type in the track address.Track webites give their address. When you get an overhead shot scroll in to the s/l and read the elevation(unfortunatly it's in meters) do the same at the f/l and you'll see the difference. Ed Google World is great.I looked up where I was stationed in the Army in Korea in1964.I think I pinpointed the location. The world is at your command,at least in pictures.

Musk,
I believe the operative name is "Google Earth." Go to: www.Google.com Pulldown menu entitled <more>> > Choose option entitled <even more> Earth is the eighth item in the left column. Select <Earth> and follow the prompts. The basic version is free. c |

Randall---I believe there is something mentioned on Tri-States web page as to how it was constructed to the MAXIMUM down grade NHRA allows...something like 3-4ft if I recall, or perhaps it was a percentage.
BTW---let's try not to meet anymore in the 1st round in '09. I sleep better knowing I don't have to run you in rd 1. Trav

Randall,
The resolution of the satellite shot for rural areas in the mid-west is not as intense as it is for urban areas. The image for Earlville makes it difficult to get a really tight view of the area but, if I'm identifying the track accurately from about 10,000 feet up and it's located just south of U.S. 20, the starting line would be about 1040' and the finish line would be about 10' lower. Ed F., There is an option to change the elevation read-outs to American dimensions. I remember making the change but I don't recall exactly how it's done. You'll need to explore the site in order to find it. c |

Ed,
If you do the math on the start/finish elevations I think that is real close to 1%. Is that how NHRA figures Grade % ? Somewhere in my a cluttered memory bank I have 2 % as the Max Grade NHRA allows for tracks that can set records. Does any one know for sure or have a link to the correct %?

Maximum downgrade allowed by NHRA is 1% - 13.2 ft. Earlville, and Oahe Speedway are at the max, and both are fast. Pomona is also close to Max downgrade, and is one of the reasons cars run fast out there even though the actual elevation is close to 1000 ft.
