Re: Wild Horse Pass in AZ closing…
I enjoyed Speedworld. Had a lot of fun there and it was a lot closer than Firebird and half the distance from Tucson for me.
Only problems I ever had was trying to rooms when baseball training camps were in session.

Re: Wild Horse Pass in AZ closing…
I do not believe them. I worked and race at Wild Horse from 2001 to 2020. The tribe did not us there. Charley Allen use to have the track. When it was time to renew the lease on the property the tribe refused to agree. As a result, the track was closed down for a few years.
I do not believe that the freeway needs the land for construction. If you have ever been to the track you know how far it is from the freeway. The east race track is close to the freeway. Next is the lake for the boat racing. Then the bleachers before you get to the track. The track is about 1/4 of a mile from the freeway. The county will never let anyone reopen Speedworld. They were behind on taxes, and they made a lot of changes on the property that were against the county rules. I guess I stopped racing at the right time. Raul |

Re: Wild Horse Pass in AZ closing…
That's a better (err, quality, not subject matter) video, nice work with the drone and shots showing racing from the same angles.
Sounds like the Indians are only in it for the money and not very interested in preserving a place to race. Ashcroft BC (don't make me try to spell that track name!) was on reserve land too. Looks pretty much like that Speedworld video now. |

Sounds like the problem wasn't really the dragstrip part of his venture.

Mike, I think there's some new houses being built down around Houghton Rd. ;-)
Raul, I agree. My first thoughts..They wanted an out, and now they've got it with ADOT. It doesn't match up to the cash flow of their surrounding businesses. I heard they're building a new interchange..For what? Rt.347 ? Looks like plenty of unused land for that , still. https://goo.gl/maps/zGrUbhaL4x39jMNq8

Re: Wild Horse Pass in AZ closing…
When this track was built 40 years ago, how far away from the population was it? The city has grown out to it. Possibly someone could go that distance out into the dessert and build another track, until the city encroaches in another 40 years.
