That is it.I have that picture also. I found out that Owens had alum with the car but it was not the original. The last guy that sold it had some alum. with it.The car was for sale in hemmings. The add just said it was a original black, with red int. high comp. lightweight.Nothing was said about it being the panther.

The smoldering rubber on the pavement is a tipoff that water burnouts were not commonly done yet....
If you wanted to heat up your tires you did dry burnouts.....and everyone did.....on the way up to the line....it was a bit crazy at times back there...

Rember Sonny well. He was a hard racer with a very fast car (PINK PANTHER). I sold my crew cab and trailer,or rather traded them to him for a new crewcab Ford F350 body and frame Around the time he purchased the Plymouth. Sonny painted the rig pink ,the same color as the car. Made a good looking pair going down the road. Ran Sonny at Colonial Beach with my SS/A Cuda for the money one Sunday during a SS show. He took the money. I said he had a fast car. Jack |

Re: 1970 NHRA National Record Holders
Wonder how many of those racers on the list are still actively racing all these 45 years later? I know Cal Method(P/S), Pete Kost(F/SA) and Al Corda(E/SA) are still at it,,, how about any others?

Re: 1970 NHRA National Record Holders
I am and have been pretty actively racing since 1980 in a lot of different cars and classes.
Started in 1966 so next year will mark 50 years since I started racing! I migrated away from Stock/Super Stock many years ago but have had a couple stockers over the years...
