You can enter your tow vehicle in the Sportsmen bracket race for $40. and race for $1000. The same amount payed to all the other NHRA categories that pay $100. to enter.

Could you double enter your STK/ SS car being that the bracket race is IRP run, and not NHRA? I would if I could. I get that guys/gals might be worried about hot lapping or whatever.

This post kind of got off track discussing National Opens.
The original post is a good one though. Why can't there be ONE entry fee that is the same for ALL Divisions and ONE payout? It appears that Division 1 is racing for double the purse and the entry isn't all that much more. I know last year I lost in the fourth round at one race and got $125.Third round loser gets $100. $25 extra for another round? Really? |

The opens are normally $150 I believe except for the Dutch which is always a few bucks higher due to it being a day longer and on the same payout scale as the D1 races. I know last year we had 17 cars in SG and I got $400 for the R/UP. |

Division 4 went from $165 (maybe it was $160?) to $200 a few years ago and re-tooled the purses to pay out to the 1/4s rather than starting with 3rd round.
These days with our current car counts, the 1/4s is generally the fourth round with exception of a few divisionals. See payout at the link here: https://www.nhradiv4.com/2014/PurseEntryFees.pdf In addition to the posted payout, division 4 has sponsors for multiple classes that add $500 to the winners and $250 to the runner ups purses. Thanks in particular to Sam Tech for Stock and Stanfield Racing Engines for the bonuses in D4.

Austin,
You actually bring up a good point and something someone asked me to do this in my series for next year and remove the 3rd round loser cash and make it 4th round but, a bigger purse. I wonder what everyone else’s thoughts are on that or do we enjoy the 3rd round payouts? |

The entry/payout ratio is definitely out of whack compared to a typical bracket race but a bracket race also doesn't need to pay a group of people to run the scales and check fuel samples. Doesn't help a Super-class guy like me, but I know what I'm getting into.
With that said, I am generally against the combination of raised entry fees and fewer people getting paid. The winner is going to be happy regardless of the amount written on the check.
